In this episode of The Sword.. MCPS has officially dropped its mask mandate. How do teachers and students and Kennedy feel about it? And we visit a Kennedy student who has autism and a gift for art.

In this episode of The Sword... Students who are part of the Healthcare Academy at Kennedy High School participate in a blood drive at Kennedy. Skateboarding is on the rise. We talk to a local skateboarder who talks about why its popularity grows. And can you identify slang words students use?

In this special Valentine's Day episode of The Sword... we take a look at what love is and what it means to be in love. Also, we learn about the origin of Valentine's Day along with a great recipe for crepes.


1/29/22 - VOLUME 2 - EPISODE 5

In this episode of The Sword.. students walk out of classes over concerns about in person learning and COVID. Omicron is more transmissible than other strains of COVID. We will talk with people who have had COVID and share their experiences. Lastly, teacher, substitute and bus driver shortages are affecting operations in schools. Why are teachers leaving the profession they were passionate about?

In this episode of The Sword, we check in with students at Kennedy High School and the status of mental health during a challenging time to be a student. Also, the LTI classes at Kennedy are making blankets for the homeless this winter.

COVID vaccines are required for those who participate in winter sports. We visit with a Kennedy teacher who competed in the Olympics. And we take a look at student work created during quarantine being featured at an exhibition.

KCTV Places Second in Community Feature Competition with STN's Fall Nationals

January 2022- Tatiana Diomi won second place for the Community Feature category in Student Television Network's Fall Nationals competition. Tatiana's story was about NBA basketball player Enes Kanter's community basketball camp in D.C.

KCTV Wins FOUR Student Production Awards from The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of NATAS

October 2021 - Students from the 2020-21 school year received recognition in works produced at home during virtual learning. Under difficult working conditions, students were still able to put together high quality stories. Students won in the following categoires: Editing, Sports Feature and two for Public Service Announcement. Congrautulations to everyone!


KCTV Wins Second Place in Remote News/Feature Category with STN's Spring Nationals

May 2021 - KCTV's Akilah Lewis won second place for the Remote News/Feature category in Student Television Network's Spring Nationals competition. Akilah's story focused on the mental health struggles of MCPS students as they navigate through virtual learning.


KCTV Takes Second Place in PSA Competition with STN's Fall Nationals

February 2021 - KCTV's Camdynn Thigpen won second place for Public Service Announcement in Student Television Network's Fall Nationals competition. Camryn's video, "But I Didn't Say No" got high marks as it was matched up with other entries around the country. Congratulations to Camryn and KCTV!
